Gravel Drain Repair

Gravel is one of the simplest and most effective ways to repair a struggling drainage system. Used around drain tile, in trenches and at problem low spots, it moves water away from your foundation across the Lower Mainland.

How Gravel Repairs a Drain

3/4 in. crush gravel is the best for drainage and creates open spaces that water flows through freely. When a drain tile is clogged with silt, or the soil around it has compacted, fresh gravel restores the path water needs to reach the pipe.

A gravel bed surrounding perimeter drain tile also acts as a filter, for good measure we also add a layer of filter cloth. It keeps fine soil out of the pipe while letting groundwater in, so the system keeps working for years. In soggy yards, a gravel-filled trench or dry well relieves pressure and gives pooling water somewhere to go.

Benefits of Gravel Drainage

Fast Water Movement

Water passes through gravel quickly, reducing pooling and hydrostatic pressure on foundation walls.

Long Lasting

Gravel does not rot or rust. Properly installed, it keeps filtering and draining for decades.

Protects the Pipe

A gravel surround shields drain tile from clogging silt and roots, extending the life of the system.

Good to Know

  • Washed, angular gravel (about 3/4 inch) drains best and resists compacting.
  • Wrapping gravel in filter fabric prevents clay and silt from clogging it.
  • Clay soils common in Langley, Surrey and Delta benefit most from a gravel surround.
  • Grading the ground away from the house works together with gravel to move water.
  • Gravel works for residential, strata and commercial properties.
